hello

Thanks for stopping by,

Here is a collection of my interests, ideas and portfolio stuff.

After a long absence, I intend to use this site as a platform for all things sustainable, gadgety, and forward looking. My career has been sporadic, and accidental, covering architecture, design, teaching, research, digital futures, sustainable design, solar energy (both  heating and electrical systems), connectivity,  database design, and how to micro-manage efficient  solutions from concept , to sourcing and storing standard material pallettes, to building teams, skill sets, workshop facilities , to ensure that all solutions are cradle to cradle, all the way through to the end user.

Although I started out studying and practicing architecture,  the frustration of needless quantities of waste being sent to landfill following demolition, coupled with the planned obsalescance of  market led solutions, led to developing  different methodologies, where repair, make do & mend, salvage and re-purposing , and always being ready to stop, and investigate further.   As the motto goes: the most sustainable  building is the one still standing.

My work has expanded  beyond  built works, extending quickly into engineering once I realised that long term support & repair was not an option following installation  .  As where commonly, a compatible infrastructure did not exist,  a" do it yourself approach" became the only way to "invent" ones way out of a hole, and to stubbornly keep digging, as this is the only way to "discover" where systems fail, and testing the limits of  each new proposal.

Equally challenging has been trying to build systems using cheap, universally available parts, ideally locally, but wherever not, i will include links to where these items can be sourced.

I have learned a great deal from each aspect, albeit, learning new languages and cultures, technologies, whats available, where and when, and wearing as many hats as possible, all at the same time.

Ultimately, I'm a frustrated inventor, so.... Welcome to my shed. What follows will be better organised over time, but for now here's what I'm watching & reading, hope you find it of interest:
